How we acclimate wood in a new build
- Free on-site quote. Call (404) 480-0962 or request one online. We measure your rooms and check the subfloor and its moisture in person.
- Selection and acclimation. You pick the species, width, and stain; the wood then acclimates in your climate-controlled home before install.
- Subfloor preparation. We flatten, repair, and moisture-check the subfloor, holding new construction to the readings, not the schedule.
- Installation. Planks are nailed, glued, or floated to suit the product and the subfloor.
- Sand, stain, and finish. Site-finished floors are sanded with dustless equipment, stained, and sealed; prefinished floors get trimmed out and detailed.
Cumming hardwood flooring: common questions
Should a new build get site-finished or prefinished hardwood?
Both work well in Cumming's new construction, so it comes down to priorities. Site-finished gives a seamless, custom-stained surface and pairs naturally with a house that is still empty. Prefinished installs faster and is walkable the same day, which suits families already moved in. We price both in your quote so the comparison is concrete.
Why does the wood need to acclimate first?
Wood takes on and releases moisture until it matches its environment, and a new house is a damp environment for months. Planks installed straight off the truck will shrink or swell after installation, showing up as gaps or cupping. A few days of acclimation inside the climate-controlled house, verified with a moisture meter, lets the wood settle before it is locked down. It costs nothing and prevents the most common new-build flooring failure.
How much does hardwood flooring cost in Cumming?
Pricing depends on square footage, the product you choose, and subfloor condition, so we quote every Cumming job individually and for free. Engineered products generally sit below site-finished solid, and refinishing builder-grade floors costs well below replacing them. You get an exact, itemized number after a free on-site visit.
How long does a hardwood installation take?
A typical Cumming install runs two to five days depending on square footage and product, plus acclimation time before we start. Prefinished floors are walkable the same day; site-finished floors add sanding, staining, and curing. We schedule around move-in dates constantly, so tell us your timeline at the quote and we will plan to it.
